SCOPE

1.1 |
This
specification governs materials, fabrication, and
tolerances applicable to Aluminum L-Foot finned tubes
fabricated by Vulcan Finned Tubes, L.P. (“Vulcan”). |

|
|
|
2.0 |
BARE
TUBE REQUIREMENTS |
|
|
|
2.1 |
The base
tube may be supplied by the customer or by Vulcan, as
agreed between the two parties. |
|
|
|
2.2 |
Mill test
reports or other acceptable manufacturer’s certification
shall be provided to the customer for all tubes supplied
by Vulcan. |
|
|
|
|
2.3 |
Tubes
must be straight and free of any flat spots on the
outside diameter. |
|
|
|
2.4 |
Length
tolerance for tubes cut to length by Vulcan shall be as
follows:

3.0 |
FIN
MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS |
|
|
|
3.1 |
Fin
material shall be either aluminum 1100-0 or 5005, as
specified. |
|
|
|
3.2 |
If
requested by customer at time of order, Vulcan shall
furnish mill test reports or other acceptable
manufacturer’s certification for fin strip materials. |
|
|
|
3.3 |
Fin
material thickness before being formed and tension-wound
around the tube shall be as specified, within a
tolerance of plus or minus 0.001 inch. After finning,
tolerance on fin thickness, as measured at the
centerline of the fin height shall be plus or minus
0.002 inch. |
|
|
|
|
3.4 |
Fin
material width before formed and tension wound around
tube shall be as specified, within a tolerance of plus
or minus 0.005 inch. |
|
|
|
|
|
4.0 |
MANUFACTURE |
|
|
|
4.1 |
Tubes are
not required to be cleaned prior to finning unless
specified. |
|
|
|
4.2 |
The
attachment between the fin and the tube will be a L-foot
tension wound mechanical bond. Fin attachment is to be
secure over entire length of tube with no loose fins. |
|
|
|
4.3 |
The cup
of the fin shall be uniform throughout the entire length
of the tube. |
|
|
|
4.4 |
Splices
in fins are permissible providing that no splice is
within 10 feet of another, and number of tubes with
splices do not account for more than 10 percent of the
total number of tubes in the order. |
|
|
|
4.5 |
Outside
diameter of the fin shall be be equal to the sum of the
specified tube diameter and twice the specified fin
height, within a tolerance of plus 0 and minus 0.015
inch after finning. |
|
|
|
4.6 |
The
number of fins per inch of tube length shall be as
specified within a tolerance of plus or minus five
percent, as determined over a distance of not less than
12 inches of finned tube length. |
|
|
|
4.7 |
The
length of unfinned sections (bare ends) on the finished
finned tube shall be as specified within a tolerance of
plus or minus 1/4 inch. |

|
|
|
|
5.0 |
INSPECTION AND TESTS |
|
|
|
5.1 |
Upon
arrival at Vulcan’s facility, tubes shall be visually
inspected to verify dimensions and proper material
identification. Tubes will also be inspected for any
obvious injurious defects. If tubes are supplier by the
customer, any defects found during inspection shall be
reported to the customer. |

|
|
5.2 |
Upon
arrival at Vulcan’s facility, fin material shall be
visually inspected to verify dimensions and proper
material identification. Fin material will also be
inspected for obvious injurious defects. Any material
found with defects that may affect the integrity of the
fin to tube attachment will be replaced. |

|
|
5.3 |
All
finned tubes shall be visually inspected prior to
shipment to purchaser. Fin tubes shall be free from
injurious defects and have a workmanlike finish. |
|
|
|
|
|
6.0 |
MARKING AND PACKAGING |
|
|
|
6.1 |
Finned
tubes shall be marked or tagged as specified by
purchaser. Where no specifications are provided by
purchaser, marking shall be at the discretion of Vulcan. |
|
|
|
6.2 |
Packaging
shall be fully enclosed crate as specified by
purchaser. Export quality crating can also be provided
upon request.
